Virgin of Viggiano

In the 14th century in the town of Grumentum, in Viggiano, the statue of the Virgin Mary was found. However, the city was destroyed and the statue was buried in a hole behind the main altar. Through a series of mysterious fires at the site several years later the statue of the Virgin Mary was found again. So there a temple was built in honor of the Virgin Mary where she took the nickname Viggiano.
