Virgin Fidusa
In Markopoulos Kefalonia several years ago the inhabitants saw the burning of a forest and specifically only a tree where at its roots there was the icon of the Virgin Mary, which they transferred to the church of the village. However, the image was lost by the church and they found it again in the same place where it had been burned. Every time they found it, it was transported, and it was lost again, and it was in the same place again. So in this place was built a women's monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary. According to legend, pirate ships sailed to the monastery and the women of the monastery prayed to the Virgin Mary to remove the threat of pirates. Then they surrounded the monastery small snakes to protect it. Every year on August 15th, snakes appear as a miracle around the temple, giving the Virgin Mary the nickname Fidusa.
