Virgin Mary Of Myrtle in Sunken Wood
Holy Mary of Myrtle is called an icon of the Virgin Mary found in Kythira probably in the 14th century by a shepherd. Theotokos appeared to the shepherd 40 days after her bed and told him to look for the picture, which had come to that place many years before. The shepherd fell to the ground and bowed and when he got up he saw the image on the branches of a myrtle. This is how Holy Mary of Myrtle was named Panagia and the discovery of the image is celebrated on September 24th.
