Saint Alexios in Sunken Wood
Saint Alexios was born in Rome to a pious family, married at a young age but on the first night of his marriage he abandoned his marital home. He went to Edessa, Mesopotamia and stayed there for 10 years. When he left there his ship fell into a storm and arrived in Rome, his family home, where he lived until the end of his life without revealing his identity. He is also known as the "man of God" because, when he died, a heavenly voice was heard that revealed his holiness, saying, "You have asked for the man of God." His memory is celebrated on 17 March by the Orthodox Church and on 17 July by the Catholic Church.
