Angels are the mediator between the kingdom of the transcendent and the secular. Angels are represented throughout the Old Testament as the body of the spiritual intermediary of beings between God and men, while in the New Testament angels often appear as God's emissaries and carriers of the message of Apocalypse. St. John the Damascene, trying to give a definition of angels, states that they are natures of mental, restlesses, independents,immaterials. They serve God and are for the sake of immortality, not limited by time and space, while having no sex.
