The nickname, Gerontissa, was given after a feast of the Virgin Mary. A very virtuous and old abbot measured the last hours of his earthly life and wanted to socialize with the Achrant Mysteries. For this reason, he begged the priestly vicar who was priesting on that day to shorten the Mass so that he could socialize. But the priest did not obey and continued to operate slowly. Suddenly the voice of the Virgin Mary was heard from the image, which commanded the priest to finish the Mass quickly, so that the abbot could socialize. That's how it happened. As soon as the Elder shared, he fell asleep and because of this incident, the image acquired the name "Gerontissa". The holy icon of the Virgin Mary of "Gerontissa" is located in I.M. Pantokratoros and according to tradition is a gift from the Byzantine Emperor Alexius I of The Monastery
