Not far from Karyes, the capital of Mount Athos, there lived a hieromonk with his disciple in 982 AD. One night an old man visited the disciple where, according to tradition, the Archangel Gabriel was. In the church that visited him there was the icon of the Theotokos and in the morning they went to sing the established oath but the old man chanted "It is right that they truly bless the Theotokos, the bloodless and unblemished, and Mother of our God." Since then the old man said: "Henceforth let all Christians sing the hymn of the Virgin like this." Saying this he became invisible, while according to tradition the image of Christ on the iconostasis of the church was transferred in a flash to the left, and the image of Theodoros to the right. This arrangement is preserved to this day, in the wood-carved iconostasis of the cell.
