Saint Basil came from Serbia where from an early age he was sent to a monastery and learned about Christianity, which he embraced. He followed the spiritual way of life and devoted himself to God. His real name was Stoyan Ioannovic and when he became a monk he received the name Vasilios. Throughout his life he fought spiritual battles for his people who were persecuted by the Turkish conquerors. He became a bishop, and was involved in the management of the Metropolis from the monastery of Ostrog, in Montenegro, where he hid from the Turks who pursued him. He rest on April 29 (where he is honored) in 1671 in his lonely cell and was buried in the same monastery.
